Upscale, historic hotel in Mobile, Alabama joins the company’s collection following June 27 closing
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Admiral Hotel is now a part of the Avocet Hospitality portfolio, following the closing of the property on June 27, 2022. The Charleston-based hospitality group purchased the hotel for $21 million. Located in Mobile’s Historic District, The Admiral is an upscale, historic property that has celebrated the city’s heritage with each of its guests since it was originally opened in 1940.
“Historic hotels are our passion, and The Admiral is a perfect fit alongside our existing historic properties, including The Vendue in Charleston, SC and The Read House in Chattanooga, TN,” says Pietro Giardini, Regional Director of Operations of Avocet Hospitality. “We can’t begin to tell you how excited we are to have an opportunity to become a member of the Mobile community as we expand our footprint in the Southeast.”
Sitting in the heart of Mobile’s Entertainment and Central Business Districts, The Admiral reflects the city’s rich history, vibrant culture and lively atmosphere and has hosted famous guests, including Bob Hope and Elvis Presley. The 156 guest rooms and suites offer views of downtown, paired with a neutral color palette, contemporary furnishings and spacious marble bathrooms. Amenities include a fitness center, an outdoor relaxation pool and landscaped sun patio. The hotel’s casual eatery, Corner 251, serves contemporary American dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner and features seasonal ingredients and a full-service bar. In addition, 7,000 square feet of meeting and event space accommodates up to 622 guests for a variety of occasions.
Avocet Hospitality’s approach is to acquire uniquely situated hotels and effectively “rebirth” the hotel to inspire guests. This has successfully been achieved with a $28 million renovation to The Read House hotel in Chattanooga, TN as well as The Vendue in Charleston, SC – over $20 million invested in renovations. The goal with The Admiral is to deliver a boutique experience that is embraced by the community.
“The Admiral has a lot of history and has been a part of the community for a long time,” adds Jon Weitz, Founder and President of Avocet Hospitality. “Our process of rebirthing a hotel always starts with listening to what the locals and the community is telling us. We strive to create unique hotel experiences that are right for the community and really try to fill a void of what the community is looking for.”
The Admiral is located at 251 Government St, Mobile, AL 36602. To learn more about The Admiral, visit theadmiralhotel.com.
